The play tells it not in Gath was written by Jodie Corrie.
The play is written by Joe Corrie. The play is aptly titled Tell It Not In Gath. Because the play begins with the introduction of Arthur and his wife Marjory. Arthur and other community members have arranged a meeting at the rectory. where all the members try to suggest solutions to stop gambling by the newly settled coal miners.
Everyone thinks of filing a police case against them. But the question arises as to who will suit the case. She reveals that Mr. Marden has won twenty thousand pounds on football coupon items. (Actually she won the money herself but she misunderstood the conversation with Old John Sexton.)

There are many main themes within this play, which are given below.
1. Public life and Private life :-
Character and reputation should never be confused. A man’s reputation is what people think he is. His character is what God knows he is.
Because he discusses his life in front of everyone. When Arthur arranges a meeting at the rectory with other members of his community and Marjorie doesn't like it, it upsets him a lot. Arthur and Marjorie's life then leads to a couple's fight. When it comes to doing all the par cases. But they are all employed in coal mines. Everyone is working in public but Arthur is also working in his private life.
2. Situation of a married woman :-
While here the status of a married woman. Too bad, but Marjorie wants to see happiness on her husband's face. While hiding from Marjory, Arthur has done a lot. But one He should not do this with a married woman.
On the back wall are portraits of Reverend Arthur Wesley's parents. His mother can be seen as living her entire life as a victim of impoverished conditions due to the church life.

Money is the main motive in human affairs. But how to bring and earn money is in our hands. Then Arthur called a meeting with other members of his community and a discussion was held in that meeting. Due to this, people earn money even by doing their jobs well. And earn badly too.
Thus it the play, arthur does not know that Marjory also bets and wins . Money is the main purpose of human affairs because in this play the gambling and the money that is earned and if it comes to stop it , it is not like this at all. Arthur goads this meeting it is done to prevent gambling from playing in this church.
At the end of the play, Marjory appears again, informing her husband that indeed Mr. Marden is not getting a penny because the football coupons belonged to someone else. Arthur feels frustrated and even angry with mankind. This is where Marjory reveals her secret and informs her husband about the money she won.

Arthur Wesley is a 60-year-old pastor. Who looks happy on one side and dissatisfied on the other side throughout the play.
When Marjory reveals that Mr. Marden has won £20,000 on a football coupon thing, his good fortune arouses everyone's envy. But it is the Rector's attitude that needs to be carefully noted in this part of the whole scene. He speaks of the loss of his faith and when all is lost, he speaks to himself in these words: “Truly, the parson's way is hard... Where is the hope? Where does true faith come from?” This feeling elevates him and gives him moral grandeur. But the crowning irony is yet to come.
Just at this moment when he feels so noble and exalted, he is informed by his wife of the mistake she has made; It is she who wins the 20,000 pounds and neither does Marden. His reactions are interesting to watch. He is stunned from the start, and Marjorie ponders the possibility of a comfortable life.

Marjory is the most honest character in the play in my opinion, because her loyalty is very good.
Marjory/Mrs. Wesley is the most honest character in the play according to me, because of her faithfulness. She is fed up with her life of drudgery as they cannot afford a servant. She thinks that his church was in the way of their happiness. As it is leading them no where . Rather they dwell into poverty.
Even the miners earn more than her husband. Their wives are not “enslaved to their work”. Her desire is “to get free of the church and be a thousand miles from her”. At the end of the play she reveals that she had put money in betting and as a result of it she wins 20,000 pounds for a shilling only. She also apologizes to Arthur for her mistake she made. This act of her shows that she is more practical than her husband. Marjory's this nature makes her the most honest character throughout the play.

If I will get the chance to develop this play further, than this are the scenes that I will like to add. First, I will give the chance to those miners so that they can put their statement in the Community Council Meeting. I would fulfill the dreams of both, Marjory and Arthur, and they would spend their future lives happily. In the next council meeting Arthur would tell about the 20,000 pounds that actually won by his wife.
Yes, all of them would fight back but they would also calm down. Going forward, these Community members will come up with a cure to stop the gambling that is taking place in the Gath.
